Factions Cost Money? Bad idea....

I'm not gonna get all mad or anything, but why do factions cost like $2 billion? All the youtube videos about our server show that creating factions are free. I don't really care if that was the old days. Making factions free again would increase the servers popularity, just to let you know, I have both chrome and frost gaming on my server list, I see frost gaming has 25 or more people on it every day, while chrome only has 10 or below. It would increase the server's popularity very much. Is there a good reason for this?

I believe the reason was so that more people would be encouraged to JOIN factions rather than create factions (which presumably creates server lag)...
It also makes it unlikely for any one-man factions to exist, because for some reason those factions are bad news.

as much as i remember from old chrome where factions were free they don't cause much lag.... bigger problem was there being too many inactive factions and halfgriefed nonused faction buildings with claimed land that noone used anymore.
Now with factions costing money new players cant make factions so they have to join an existing faction or play for a while to get the money to make one. only a good thing

It was not a bad idea because it keeps the economy in order, so not everything plunges into chaos.

Just remembered:

FrostGaming server is famous only thanks to BasedGod/Tyler/Undef/Me and some other ex-staff that got screwed over (Undef has now been screwed over in 2 servers in a row if im not mistaken). Has nothing to do with factions

EDIT: Also it used to have 20-50 players online (depending on time)
